Radiographic imaging is an essential tool in modern medicine, providing
critical diagnostic information. However, the quality of these images can be
compromised by various factors leading to rejection, which in turn affects
patient management and increases healthcare costs. The findings from this
study will be used in planning and implementing improved diagnostic
accuracy, reducing the operational burden and cost on healthcare facilities.
This study investigates the rejection rate of digital radiographs in a tertiary
hospital in North Central Nigeria, aiming to identify common causes and
distribution patterns by body part, sex, and age. A comprehensive
retrospective analysis of 299 radiographic examinations over a period of 6
months was carried out by a certified radiologist. The study revealed a
rejection rate of 10.37%. The most frequent reasons for rejection included
poor positioning, incomplete images, and cut-off errors. The study also
found slight variations in rejection rates between males and females and
between children and adults. Notably, the chest radiographs exhibited the
highest rejection rate, primarily due to positioning issues. These findings
underscore the need for improved training and quality control measures to
enhance the overall quality of radiographic imaging and patient care.

Pott's Puffy tumor is a rare disease entity arising from osteomyelitis of the frontal bone associated with subperiosteal abscess that develops on the forehead resulting from frontal sinusitis. In this case, we present a 12-year-old girl who presented with Pott's Puffy tumor with epidural abscess extension which was detected on CT scan. The role of radiological imaging is discussed.

EKEDIGWE, J E
Imaging (MRI) in Nigeria as a whole and in Jos in
particular has added to the arsenal of valuable diagnostic
tools in medical practice in this part of the world, with an
increasing scope of its use. The aim of this study is to
determine the indications, age range of patients
investigated and findings on MRI at the Jos University
Teaching Hospital.
Methods: A retrospective review of MRI investigations
performed at the Jos University Teaching Hospital over an
eighteen month period (May 2010-October 2011)
Results: There were 161 MRI investigations carried out
during the study period. Of these, 136 were patients from
within the index hospital while 25 were referrals from
outside. A total number of 90 males (55.9%) and 71
females (44.1%) were investigated. The overall mean age
Abstract
of patients was 42.5±16.9 years with a range of 2-73
years. The major indications for MRI are seizure disorder:
17(10.6%), suspected lumbar spondylosis: 16(10%),
suspected intracranial space occupying lesion: 14(8.8%),
and cerebrovascular accident: 11(6.9%). The highest
findings on MRI were normal: 48(30%) and degenerative
disc disease: 26(16.1%).
Conclusion: Normal findings were mostly seen in MRI
brain studies. Degenerative disc disease was mostly seen
in MRI spine investigations.

Incidental finding of Chilaiditi sign in a Nigerian hypertensive: a case report
EKEDIGWE, JE
The patient was a 54 year old male Nigerian from Plateau State. He was a hypertensive on Moduratic when consulted BNO in January 2010 for forgetfulness and blood pressure control. Physical examination was negative but for severe hypertension of 230/140 mmHg in the supine position. Chilaiditi sign was noticed on chest X-Ray requested as part of cardiovascular evaluation. We are reporting this as a rarity which has not been previously documented from Nigeria. In medical literature to the best of our knowledge. Clinicians should be aware of this to avoid misdiagnosis of visceral rupture and unwarranted surgical intervention
